Located to the west of the historic village of Estoi, 8km from Faro, the Roman Villa of Milreu bears witness to a continued occupation since the 19th century. I until the century XI.
Its history reveals that it was inhabited by families of high social and political status and the home of an important Roman personality certainly linked to the management of the ancient city of Ossónoba (Faro).
In the 4th century, a richly decorated religious building was built and still partly conserved today, intended for the private worship of the family.
During the excavations were found several archaeological findings, marine -themed mosaics, painted stucco, sculptures and marbles.
